Yokogawa South Africa celebrated the official opening of their Cape Town workspace earlier this month with 29 VIP customers at their new premises in Tygervalley. Yokogawa has been active in the Western Cape Region of South Africa for over 25 years and wanted to firmly plant roots in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town to better service their customers.
Rob Oliaro, Regional Sales Manager for the Cape region explains, “Our new workspace is indicative of our commitment to local customers and demonstrates that Yokogawa as an OEM is part of the regional landscape. We wanted to offer a central space providing local after sales and service support as well as a professional environment to host customers, organise workshops and give presentations. I think it’s a great base to meet and share ideas.”
The first DCS installations in the Western Cape dates back to the late 1980’s with the installation of Yokogawa’s Centum XL DCS System at the Caltex Refinery, followed in the 1990’s by De Beers Marine and SA Nylon Spinners. Originally Yokogawa was represented by an agent called Process Measurement, and it was only in 2007 that Yokogawa went ahead in building their own capability in the region and won several important projects including the Chevron DCS Controller Upgrade Project executed between 2008 and 2011, followed by the ESD Replacement Project from 2012 to 2014. In 2010, Yokogawa Cape Town received a significant order from Chevron Cape Town for 1,038 EJX Pressure Transmitters.
“The future for Yokogawa in the Cape is bright with many opportunities. Yokogawa will need to respond positively to new and future market trends which include terminal automation, mining and alternative power opportunities,” comments Oliaro. Potential game changers for the region include the Karoo Shale Gas development with exploration expected to start within the next two to three years, as well as regional IDZ (Industrial Development Zone) developments like Coega and Saldanha. The key markets serviced in the region are Oil & Gas, Power, Mining, Water & Wastewater and Food & Beverage.
Globally, Yokogawa celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 and continues to create new value with its clients for a brighter future. The centennial celebrations were marked with the release of a new brand slogan “Co- innovating tomorrow”. The company is now accelerating its efforts to bring about a transformation that will allow the company to sustain growth for another 100 years. The term “Co-innovating” conveys Yokogawa’s determination to engage in the co-creation of value through the development of solutions in long-term partnerships with clients, while “tomorrow” expresses the company’s resolve to move steadily into the future.
