ADMAG TI - AXG Ethernet Flow Meter with EtherNet/IP Connectivity

What Are Ethernet Flowmeters?

Migration of process control instrumentation communication to industrial Ethernet is well underway in many industries including power generation and transmission, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and water/wastewater. Yokogawa is preparing for the expected disruption to legacy Fieldbus communications with the release of our first industrial Ethernet-enabled field instrument, the ADMAG TI AXG flow meter controllers with ethernet interfaces, supporting full-featured, mature EtherNet/IP functionality.

Now with 3A approval and sanitary clamps for the Food and Beverage Industry.

What Are the Advantages of Flow Meters with Ethernet/IP (EIP)?

EIP is capable of handling large amounts of data at speeds of 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps, and up to 1500 bytes per packet. The Ethernet bi-directional digital communication performance makes it possible for the field instruments and control devices to be a complete on-line system, superseding the existing analog and/or Fieldbus transmission lines. Other advantages include:

  • Improved instrumentation flexibility and communication capabilities
  • Seamless integration with process automation systems
  • Quick and easy integration with Rockwell Automation PLCs with advanced Add-on Profiles and Add-on Instructions

What Are the Features of Flow Meters with Ethernet/IP?

  • Interoperability
Flow meter Ethernet/IP integration specifications grant interoperability to field instruments without preparing designated software for the instrument.
  • Improved Operation and Electromagnetic Flow Monitoring Function
An operation authority level setting is available to ensure safety, process data trend display, display backlight flashing (Squawk) function, as well as a data store/restore function with display unit internal memory or microSD card.
  • Fluid Adhesion Level Diagnosis
Constant monitoring of the level of insulating substance on the electrodes makes it possible to determine when maintenance is required.
  • Stable Measurement
Yokogawa's dual-frequency excitation method realizes stable flow measurement even under high flow noise in the fluid with highly concentrated slurry.
  • Improved Maintainability
    • Flow meter diagnostic functions installed for preventive maintenance of the plant
    • Diagnosis of the device (verification function) executed without demounting from piping
    • Detection of the process condition by monitoring the flow noise and electric conductivity of the fluid
    • Electrode insulation deterioration diagnosis, electrode adhesion diagnosis, and wiring connection diagnosis available
  • Network Structure
    • Daisy chain - 2 ports are necessary
    • Network ring - 2 ports are necessary (Device Level Ring Support)
    • Network star - only 1 port is necessary; simultaneous use of other port for service or maintenance is possible
  • Web Server
    • Configure and diagnose for maintenance operation

The condiment facility staff had success with Yokogawa’s ADMAG TI AXG magnetic flowmeters in other applications. When they learned EtherNet/IP communication was now offered on the ADMAG TI - AXG, they chose to use the Yokogawa magmeter solution on the mustard grinding lines.

Industries:
Overview:

To meet state requirements for calibration checks, use Meter Verification (part of the Total Insight concept of the ADMAG TI - AXG) to verify the calibration and functionality of each meter. The reliable accuracy of the AXG magmeter results from Yokogawa’s proprietary, dual-frequency excitation method. It combines traditional high/low-frequency excitation methods to ensure greater stability and quicker response even if noise or other problems are present in the line. With EtherNet/IP, an operator can initiate a verification from the HMI to ensure the gallery is running optimally.

Overview:

Yokogawa’s latest generation of ADMAG AXG Series is the most suitable magnetic flowmeter with adhesion level diagnosis and dual-frequency excitation method provides stable flow measurement even under high flow noise in the severe applications like the flow of aluminum slurries.

Flow performance extends cell membrane life with accurate, reliable, and stable performance - saving millions of dollars in membrane repair costs, reducing instrument maintenance costs and production downtime, and production loss.

Industries:
Overview:

Accurate and durable magnetic flow meters (magmeters) were difficult to maintain in the process as the corrosive and abrasive nature of the process degraded their operation. That led to leaks that not only reduced the flow but also contaminated the product and the magmeters. Since Sigura maintained strong vigilance, the company needed to replace some magmeters monthly...

Overview:

Yokogawa’s ADMAG TI - AXG magnetic flowmeter (magmeter) with EtherNet/IP is used to measure the water moving from the pump to the snow cannons. The accurate measurement allows the operator to monitor and control the water in the mixture to produce artificial snow with the perfect consistency.

Controls temperature in, and acquires data from, various internal components of plastic film manufacturing equipment. An easy to use, high cost-performance data acquisition and monitoring system can be assembled by using Ethernet compatible instruments and GA10.

Overview:

With advances in process automation comes a greater need for level measurement and control. As pressure on at the bottom surface of a liquid is proportional to the height of the liquid's surface, you can measure pressure using a differential pressure transmitter to detect the level of the liquid, acquire the data on the UT75A Digital Indicating Controller, and use the measurements to control the tank level.

Overview:

ADMAG TI autozero or zero adjustment is carried out to ensure that the output for zero flow is 0% (i.e., 4 mA). Although adjustment to zero is performed at the manufacturing plant prior to shipment, this procedure must be carried out once again following the installation of piping in order to match the magnetic flowmeter to its operating conditions.

They help remove stray energy or noise as it builds up in the flow process by grounding it. They can even help protect the magmeter liner from damage in harsher processes.
