Houston – March 24, 2025
Yokogawa Corporation of America’s water business is collaborating with the University of Maryland this year to sponsor the institute’s course, "Future of Water: A Vision of 2050." This course, which is to be hosted twice throughout the year at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, is designed to challenge enrolled students to project forward twenty-five years, hypothesizing the water challenges society will face, identifying the greatest impacts, and proposing actions institutions can take to address water access. This initiative aligns with Yokogawa's commitment to sustainability and fostering thoughts about future challenges within the next generations.
Students will envision the technoeconomic hurdles to access fresh water in 2050 by evaluating current trends in population growth, shifting demographics, political discourse, social drivers, climate change, water resource access, funding mechanisms, and evolving technologies. Through its support, Yokogawa will contribute to the academic growth of students and gain valuable insights that could shape its future strategies in the water industry. Steve Hayden, the water industry director for Yokogawa Corporation of America, stated, "We are excited to support this course as it aligns with our sustainability goals and provides us with an opportunity to identify innovative ideas that could be applied in the real world through our business. By engaging with the next generation of thinkers, we hope to address the future challenges of water access and ensure that water remains readily available to sustain life."
