Video FAQ
What is the transmitter square root function and why you should use it?
- It is a function on differential pressure (DP) transmitters that calculates the process flow using differential pressure readings.
Why would you use the square root (SQRT) function?
- When using differential pressure applications for flow measurement.
- 50% of all applications still use DP flow to measure flow.
Why is it important for everyone involved to understand where square root (SQRT) is calculated?
- The transmitter can do the SQRT calculation, or it can be done in the DCS or controller. Make sure it is well documented.
- Make sure it is well documented to eliminate confusion and false assumptions.
- Best practice is to perform the SQRT calculation in the DCS.
- Calculated flow values can shown on the transmitter display, while the pressure reading is transmitted to the DCS for the final calculation.
- Yokogawa DPs can be set to display the square root measurement so field technicians can see what is going on in the process.
