Cyber security is a progressively complex and challenging topic. With no shortage of incidents from criminals, hackers and nation-states, it is becoming increasingly important for industries to increase their cyber awareness and resilience to ensure that their knowledge and systems match the advanced tactics employed by cyber criminals. This seminar will examine what constitutes “adequate”, as well as existing good practice in the field of industrial cyber security. Yokogawa’s Rob Turner will present ‘Business as usual: Managing plant cyber security risk’ at this free to attend seminar.

Presentation Synopsis:

The management of risk is an established topic for the business and continuity planning is a central part of the strategy for all but the very smallest organisations. This presentation looks at the evolving cyber threat to industrial networks and some of the additional steps that might be needed to manage the associated risks. However, is plant cyber security a risk for the business, or is the business a security risk for the plant? We know that risk in the OT (Operational Technology) domain is very different from risk in the IT domain but what are the main differences and how do we address the potential implications for “business as usual”?

Presenter: Rob Turner BSc (Hons) CEng MIET GICSP

Rob is the Team Lead for Yokogawa’s Advanced Solutions group in the UK and a practising consultant in industrial cyber security. In a career spanning over 35 years Rob has been actively engaged as both an engineer and a technical consultant in control, automation and industrial IT. He has been involved in industrial network security since before it became a major issue and is currently engaged in gap assessments and improvement planning for clients in numerous industry sectors. At the beginning of 2017, he became a qualified Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (aka GICSP) through the SANS Institute.
