Tokyo, Japan - June 16, 2020
Yokogawa Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6841) announces that its subsidiary Yokogawa Saudi Arabia has received an order from Turkish contracting giant Limak Construction to supply the monitoring systems for a key water transmission pipeline project in Saudi Arabia.
The Jubail-Riyadh water transmission system, owned by the state-run Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), will transport water from desalination plants near Jubail on the Persian Gulf coast to Riyadh, the growing capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It will be one of the largest water transmission systems in the world, capable of transporting 1.2 million m3 of potable water per day. The system consists of a 412 km twin pipeline, one pumping station in Jubail, two intermediate pumping stations, and two tank farms.
Yokogawa will deliver its STARDOM™ network-based control system, flowmeters, transmitters, and a leak detection system to monitor the pipelines, analytical equipment for monitoring water quality, and its FAST/TOOLS™ supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software. Yokogawa Saudi Arabia will be responsible for engineering, installing, and commissioning these products. Delivery will be completed by March 2021, and the pipeline system is scheduled to become operational by the end of that year.
Limak Construction belongs to the Turkish conglomerate Limak and specializes in large international infrastructure projects. Yokogawa was awarded the contract based on its solid track record in the field of water infrastructure monitoring in Saudi Arabia. This is Yokogawa's first order from Limak.
Go Iwata, general manager of Yokogawa's Renewable Energy, Power & Water Sales Center, commented, "One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)* is to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, which is a pressing issue in regions that are seeing rapid industrialization and population growth. Yokogawa is proud to be able to contribute to this goal in the Middle East by leveraging our extensive experience in the field of water infrastructure automation gained from projects in over 40 countries, including other major pipelines in Saudi Arabia."
* The SDGs were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by the year 2030. The 17 SDGs are interdependent.
