Yokogawa Enters into Sales Partnership with Sensyn Robotics for Drone-Related Services

Tokyo, Japan - October 28, 2024

Yokogawa Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6841) announces that it has signed a sales partnership agreement with Tokyo-based Sensyn Robotics, Inc. (“Sensyn Robotics”) to provide drone-related services to customers across a range of industries. Sensyn Core, which is an application development platform provided by Sensyn Robotics that uses drones, AI, and data analysis, will complement Yokogawa’s own OpreX Robot Management Core and enable the development of solutions that utilize both robots and drones for the autonomous inspection of facilities.

With oil & gas, chemical, and other kinds of production facilities, certain routine inspection tasks need to be carried out in high-risk areas such as at heights, at offshore and other isolated locations, and in hazardous environments. The shortage of personnel to operate plant equipment and other facilities is also an issue, so there is a growing need for robots and drones that can move around plants and take over data collection, inspection, and other tasks. To tackle this issue, in March 2024 Yokogawa launched its OpreX Robot Management Core software, which enables the integrated management of mobile robots from a number of manufacturers.

Sensyn Robotics develops and provides technologies that enable the digital transformation of social and industrial infrastructure maintenance. The Sensyn Core platform is one of its flagship products, and has already been road-tested in numerous applications in Japan, such as for the inspection of power grids and wind turbines, and the measurement of forests. The platform can be used to control drones from major global manufacturers.

Under the partnership, Yokogawa will offer the Sensyn Core platform and other drone-related services alongside OpreX Robot Management Core through its global network, and will leverage its in-depth knowledge of manufacturing sites and long experience with plant systems to address the growing demand from customers for solutions that enable safer and more efficient plant inspections.

Masaharu Maeda, a Yokogawa Electric vice president and executive officer and head of the Solutions Business Division, commented, “Yokogawa considers the deployment of robots and drones as an essential element in the journey from industrial automation to industrial autonomy. This agreement with Sensyn Robotics enables us to be a one-stop provider of innovative, long-term solutions that can truly enhance safety in the manufacturing environment.”

  • Chemical

Chemical plants rely on continuous and batch production processes, each posing different requirements for a control system. A continuous process calls for a robust and stable control system that will not fail and cause the shutdown of a production line, whereas the emphasis with a batch process is on having a control system that allows great flexibility in making adjustments to formulas, procedures, and the like. Both kinds of systems need to be managed in available quality history of product, and to be able to execute non-routine operations. With its extensive product portfolio, experienced systems engineers, and global sales and service network, Yokogawa has a solution for every plant process.
