Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that Dr. Penny Chen, senior principal technology strategist for Yokogawa Corporation of America, has been elevated to the distinguished membership grade of Fellow of the International Society of Automation (ISA), a leading, global, nonprofit organization that is setting the standard for automation. The award presentation was held on October 29.
Dr. Penny Chen
Founded in 1945, the ISA is an organization that sets and advocates technology standards for the control industry to improve safety, efficiency, and profitability at manufacturing sites. An ISA fellowship recognizes qualified ISA members who have made exceptional engineering or scientific contributions to the automation profession. Based upon peer evaluation, it is the highest grade of ISA membership. The criteria for selection are demanding and only a few members are elected each year, making this grade a coveted honor. This year five people received this honor.
This acknowledgment of Dr. Chen reflects the following major contributions she has made to the control industry:
At ISA, Dr. Chen was involved in standardizing wireless technologies for industrial automation through the development of the ISA100 standards, including the ISA100.11a standard on wireless sensor networks for industrial automation, and established a certification process to ensure the interoperability of the ISA100 Wireless™ technology. Dr. Chen also served as chairman of the ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute (WCI) and co-chair of the ISA100.15 Wireless Backhaul Backbone Network Working Group. In 2014 and 2017, she received ISA Standards and Practices Department Awards for outstanding technical expertise and leadership in the development of the ISA100 backhaul architecture model for wireless industrial networks, and for outstanding technical expertise and contributions in preparing the ISA100.20 Common Network Management Technical Report. She served as director of the ISA Communication Division from 2015 to 2017. She is widely respected by her industry peers and has earned great respect for Yokogawa in the field wireless community. Her technical knowledge and tireless efforts to clearly convey this to others has helped to grow the ISA100 Wireless market.
Encouraged by this award, Yokogawa will continue working to contribute to society and achieve progress in the control industry by developing and introducing value-added solutions based on excellent control technologies.
