Tokyo, Japan - January 9, 2014

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that Graham Speake of Yokogawa Corporation of America and the principal systems architect at the Yokogawa IA Global Strategic Technology Marketing Center (USMK) in Dallas, Texas has received the SANS 2013 People Who Made a Difference in Cybersecurity Award as a member of the Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional Team, which consists of seven industrial cybersecurity experts from SANS, a global oil and gas company, and industrial control system vendors. This award from the SANS Institute (SANS) recognizes security practitioners who are making breakthroughs in advancing cyber security. The award recipients were announced on December 16 at the SANS Cyber Defense Initiative training event in Washington, D.C.

SANS was established in 1989 as a cooperative research and education organization, and is the largest source for world-class information security training and security certification in the world. SANS honored the team for driving a collaborative effort with Global Information Assurance Certification, a certification body of SANS, to develop the Global Industrial Controls Systems Practitioner (GICSP) certification, a unique industrial control system security qualification that will be issued to professionals having the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to secure critical infrastructure assets. The GICSP covers the IT, engineering, and cyber security competencies needed to achieve security for industrial control systems, from design through retirement.

Encouraged by this award, Yokogawa will continue working to achieve progress in the control industry and ensure a secure operational environment for its customers by developing and introducing control solutions based on excellent control technologies.
