Tokyo, Japan - January 7, 2014
In 2013, Yokogawa celebrated its 40th year of doing business in Brazil and South America. The company's presence in these markets dates back to November 5, 1973, when Yokogawa Electrica do Brazil, the predecessor to the current Yokogawa America do Sul, was established, making this one of Yokogawa's first operations outside Japan. These companies have provided the most advanced industrial automation solutions, including process control systems, industrial instruments, test & measurement instruments, and recorders, to customers throughout South America in the oil & gas, pulp & paper, petrochemical, and other industries.
Over the past 40 years, Yokogawa's business operations in South America have gone through numerous changes as the organization sought to improve customer service and develop the market. In 1995, Yokogawa America do Sul took on the role of overseeing operations in South America, and established subsidiaries in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. In a manufacturing facility with more than 11,000 m2 of floor space, the company assembles transmitters, analyzer sampling systems, and cabinets. Engineering, service, and training centers have also been set up that provide high quality automation engineering, after-sales services, and customer training. More than 17,500 professionals have attended courses at the training center since its opening in 1985.
To mark this occasion, Yokogawa hosted an anniversary dinner and ceremony at the Jockey Club in Sao Paulo on December 4. Nearly 130 guests were invited, including top executives of Yokogawa customers, government officials, the consul general of Japan in Sao Paulo, and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Brazilian Federation. Carlos Alberto, a process safety and sustainability manager with Solvay Indupa do Brazil SA, commented, "It was a great opportunity to hear other users share their experiences. I would like to congratulate Yokogawa's South American business on its 40th anniversary, and I know they will continue to contribute in this market with their reliable and high quality solutions."

"Thanks to the continued patronage of our customers, we have a long history of doing business in South America, which presents vast opportunities for economic growth. Brazil is one of the regions that Yokogawa is focusing on under the Evolution 2015 mid-term business plan, and we see oil & gas, petrochemicals, pulp & paper, renewable energy, and mining as our target industries. Our superior solutions, which are based on the latest technologies and our rich experience and knowhow in the control and measurement field, help to improve plant efficiency by reducing the consumption of materials and energy. We are looking into additional ways to protect the environment, and are contributing to society with advanced control solutions for CO2 emissions reduction and waste water treatment. We believe that we are helping to ensure a sustainable future not only for South America but also the entire world."
