Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that its Technology Planning Department and its Yokogawa Manufacturing Corporation subsidiary have received the 2013 Miles Award from the Society of Japanese Value Engineering (SJVE).
This prestigious award is named after Lawrence D. Miles, who created the concept and techniques of value engineering* (VE). The SJVE started this award program in 1982 to encourage the adoption of the VE methodology by Japanese industry and promote technical proficiency and efficiency in corporate management. This award is given to a company or company unit that has achieved outstanding results through the systematic and continuous practice of VE techniques.
With this award, these two Yokogawa organizations are being recognized for their effective implementation of a VE-oriented system. The Technology Planning Department uses this in its product development activities, whereas Yokogawa Manufacturing Corporation makes use of it in its mass production operations. VE is employed in every product planning and production process and contributes to the achievement of the organization's business goals by encouraging concurrent global activities in collaboration with each product business headquarters.
The award ceremony and a presentation by the award winner will take place during the 3rd SAVE International Asian VE Conference and the 46th SJVE Conference on October 21 at the Toshi Center Hotel in Tokyo.
* Value engineering (VE): a systematic approach for improving the value of products and services by assessing the relationship between their functions and costs. VE can be applied to processes such as planning, development, design, manufacturing, logistics, office work, and maintenance, and is used in a wide variety of industries.
