Single Cellome™ System SS2000 Helps to Revolutionize the Field of Single-Cell Lipidomics

Prof. Melanie Bailey and her group at the University of Surrey, UK, have used Yokogawa’s Single Cellome™ System SS2000 to enable single-cell LC/MS analysis from living cells, a technique that had been a challenge to achieve. By combining the highly accurate and gentle cell sampling technique of the SS2000 with liquid chromatography mass spectrometry technology, a revolutionary method for lipidomics analysis from ultra-low volume samples from living cell cultures was established. In this study, lipid profiles were stably read from individual pancreatic cancer cells, and this data was successfully correlated with the live cell imaging data also obtained by Yokogawa’s SS2000. This is a new milestone in lipidomics analysis and an innovative research achievement that overcomes the challenges present with other methods.
