Safety Requirement Specification (SRS)

After the allocation of Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) with the target SIL, the next step is to specify the requirements of the SIS and the application program such as mode of operation, (de-)energize to trip, override, reset, process safety time, response time, diverse, separation, proof test, etc. The Safety Requirements Specification (SRS) should include all these requirements based on IEC 61511 for proper SIS design and engineering.

Customer Challenges

Ambiguous SRS requirements will result in poor SIS design and engineering. Most of the time customers do not have the sufficient knowledge about Functional Safety due to various reasons e.g., lack of experiences, lack of time/human resources, retirement of Subject Matter Expert, etc. Therefore, it will be difficult for customers to write a comprehensive SRS.

Our Solution

Yokogawa functional safety experts provide the SRS based on IEC 61511. Yokogawa functional safety experts use purposed built software with integration with HAZOP and SIL classification information or word templates to provide a standardized SRS approach.
More information is available by clicking the link "Sustainable Safety Lifecycle Solution" at the upper right corner of this page.
If customers have their own SRS template, Yokogawa safety experts will use that accordingly.

Customer Benefits

The final result is a comprehensive SRS document that describes overall SIS requirements and application program safety requirements as well as details of each SIF’s safety and functional behavior, ensuring that the SRS can be used to verify and validate the SIS in later phases of the IEC 61511 SIS safety lifecycle.
