Prisca Liberali has been awarded the EMBO Gold Medal 2022. Every year, the medal is awarded to scientists under the age of 40 who contributed outstanding research to the life sciences in Europe. The Yokogawa team congratulates Prisca Liberali on the award!
Prisca Liberali’s Research
Prisca Liberali and her lab are trying to understand the formation of 3D intestinal organoids from stem cells. They are also developing new analytical tools. Recently, Prisca and her team could characterize trigger mechanisms that break the symmetry when mouse intestinal organoids are formed.
These events which break the symmetry are very important for pattern formation. With these events, initially identical cells can be differentiated and lineage can be segregated in developing tissues. One insight of their research is that activated YAP1 is required for forming symmetrical cysts, followed by deactivating symmetry-breaking events for the formation of crypts.
In the video below, you can see how Prisca Liberali works with the Yokogawa CellVoyager™ CV8000.
On-Demand Webinar: High-Content Screening reveals the Phenotypic Landscape of Intestinal Organoid Regeneration
Do you want to learn more about organoid research at Prisca Liberali’s lab?
Watch the on-demand webinar “High-Content Screening reveals the Phenotypic Landscape of Intestinal Organoid Regeneration” presented by Ilya Lukonin.
In this webinar, Lukonin explores the application of complex and biologically relevant model systems for drug screening, such as small intestinal organoids. He describes several processes used to infer regulatory genetic interactions and identify genes that regulate cell-fate transitions and maintain the balance between regeneration and homeostasis, unraveling previously unknown roles for several pathways, among them retinoic acid signaling.
Don’t be afraid, be bold
In our interview, Prisca Liberali talks about her STEM career, the role models she had, and gives advice to young female scientists.
