Yokogawa Announces Cooperative Efforts with Dräger Safety

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announced today that it had entered into negotiations with Dräger Safety AG & Co. KGaA in Germany for future business collaboration.

The collaboration between the two companies includes the development of the world's first FOUNDATION fieldbus™ Fire and Gas Alarm System.

FOUNDATION fieldbus has proven itself as the enabling technology for the intelligent field devices, with commercial benefits in the realization and operational phases.  To date, these benefits have been limited to the process control functions.  Both companies will extend FOUNDATION fieldbus benefits to the safety functions, both for central and for remote/distributed facilities, in a reliable and cost effective manner.  The FOUNDATION fieldbus-based fire & gas solutions consist of Yokogawa's network-based control system and Dräger's detection devices.  These systems will include open connectivity and an embedded Java operator interface, suitable for single and wide area distributed facilities.

This joint undertaking aims to combine the strengths of both companies into a unique offering in the fieldbus and safety system market segments: A convincing total solution (field sensors, process control and safety system, asset management software and associated engineering/maintenance services) will be offered through the worldwide marketing and sales infrastructure of both companies.

The collaboration enables both companies to enhance their fieldbus and safety solution portfolios.
