Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces the award of a major control system project to be installed in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The estimated $30 million USD project includes Yokogawa's integrated control system CENTUM CS3000 R3 and field instruments including pressure, temperature and flow.
Jubail United Petrochemical Company (United), a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), is constructing a new Ethylene complex in Jubail. The first phase of the complex contains an Ethylene plant (1,000kt/year), Ethylene Glycol (EG) (620kt/year) plant and an Alfaolefin (150kt/year) plant. Yokogawa was selected as the provider of the Process Control and Management Information System (PCIMS) solutions as well as the provider of the major share of field instruments.
Fluor Daniel - Houston, Texas, U.S. - the project management consultant (PMC), was requested to select the PCIMS vendor for this project prior to selecting the Lump Sum Turn Key (LSTK) contractors for the process plants in order to unify the design philosophy and architecture for the control and information management system.
"The award of the united project is another example of Yokogawa's recognition as a global control systems solutions provider and speaks to our product quality and engineering capability," says Akira Kohzuki, Senior General Manager, International Business HQ . "This project will utilize many of our control and management information solutions including our full line of field instrumentation. We look forward to contributing to this significant and exciting project," he said.
The joint evaluation team of United and Fluor Daniel spent almost six months evaluating suppliers and finally selected Yokogawa's CENTUM CS3000 R3 control system as its platform. Yokogawa was selected as the project partner because of the excellent performance and reliability of the company and its products. The preliminary contract initiating the project was awarded to Yokogawa Corporation of America (YCA), Newnan, GA. YCA will execute the project with the selected LSTK vendors. Additional expertise and resources from Yokogawa's global operations will be used to assist in this large project.
