Yokogawa DCS Selected by GE for Combined Cycle Power Plant* in Brazil

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces the award of a contract from GE Power Systems to supply a distributed control system (DCS) for the Termopernambuco Power Plant, a 460 megawatt combined cycle facility that is under construction in Brazil. The DCS is a CENTUM CS 3000 with a unified operator interface (UOI) that will be used to control the plant's heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and balance of plant (BOP) auxiliaries. It is to be delivered by Yokogawa America in October 2002.

Yokogawa's CENTUM CS 3000 / UOI is a joint development with GE which enables seamless operation between a GE turbine control system and a Yokogawa DCS. The UOI is a common operator interface that eliminates the need by plant operators to master multiple methods for controlling a turbine and its HRSG and BOP auxiliaries.

This is the first contract involving a combined-cycle power plant to be awarded directly to Yokogawa by GE Power Systems. To date, Yokogawa has won six contracts to supply the CENTUM CS 3000 / UOI system and it is anticipated that demand for these systems will increase as a result of our involvement in this project.

The Termopernambuco project will be a joint effort of Yokogawa America and Yokogawa Brazil, with Yokogawa headquarters supplying assistance and Yokogawa's Global Power Solutions Center (GPSC)** in charge of overall project coordination. According to the GPSC scheme, the project participants will specialize in the support services that they provide, depending on each organization's resources and strengths.

Yokogawa continues to expand its global network of services and products to serve the worldwide power market.
