Yokogawa's CENTUM CS3000 Control System Officially Recognized As Passing The Fieldbus Foundation's Host Interoperability Support Test

Yokogawa Electric Corporation officially announces the successful test of its CENTUM CS/CS1000/CS3000 by the Fieldbus Foundation's Host Interoperability Support Test (HIST). Yokogawa, one of the founding members of the original ISP Foundation and later the Fieldbus Foundation, has taken a leadership role in the specification, development, testing and now implementation of FOUNDATION fieldbus technology in their instrumentation and control solutions.

The Fieldbus Foundation™ (FF) located in Austin TX, announced the HIST program enabling controls manufacturers to demonstrate that their host systems deliver the robust control functionality and interoperability of FOUNDATION™ fieldbus technology. Yokogawa's CENTUM CS3000 was the first control system tested last September and approved to the services supported in the FF document FF-569 Exhibit A. The official Letter of Compliance recognizing this successful achievement has now been delivered.

The HIST program provides generic test procedures performed or witnessed by qualified FF staff on FOUNDATION fieldbus systems. The tests demonstrate that a host system supports features defined in the foundation's host feature checklist. Host interoperability support testing is a valuable asset to both control system manufacturers developing Foundation-compliant host implementations and end users seeking to benefit from full device functionality and subsystem interoperability provided by FOUNDATION fieldbus.

"The FF believes that the HIST test gives tremendous confidence to End Users concerned about interoperability and FOUNDATION fieldbus implementation in control systems," says Rich Timoney, President, Fieldbus Foundation. "Congratulation to the Yokogawa design team for creating the first system that passes this testing event and delivers the full functionality of FOUNDATION fieldbus technology."

"The recently announced Release 3 of the CENTUM CS3000 enhances the engineering environment for fieldbus implementation," says Yoshitsugu Morikoka, Fieldbus Technology Manager, Yokogawa Electric Corp. and Member of the FF Executive Committee. "Configuration of the fieldbus system and field devices has been fully integrated. The system also supports redundancy of the FF interface, communications, power supplies and Link Active Schedulers, which is done by a new remote I/O subsystem called "Fieldnetwork I/O (FIO). Our Enterprise Technology Solutions now includes one of the world's most powerful FF integrated control systems together with a full array of FF registered instruments," he said. "We are very pleased to learn that our CS3000 has officially recognized as passing the FF HIST giving our customers the confidence they need when implementing our fieldbus solution."

The Fieldbus Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation consisting of over 160 leading process and manufacturing automation companies worldwide whose major purpose is to provide an open and neutral environment for the development of a single, international, interoperable fieldbus. In this environment, end users, manufacturers, universities and research organizations are working together to develop the technology, provide development tools, support and training, coordinate field trials and demonstrations, and enable product interoperability.
