Eiji Mikawa passed away. Isao Uchida elected new president and chief executive officer.

Mr. Eiji Mikawa, president and chief executive officer of Yokogawa, passed away on June 19, 1999, at age 65. He was suffering from bile duct cell cancer. The funeral for his family was held on June 21, 1999. The company will hold a memorial service in July (date to be announced). Mr. Mikawa is greatly missed by his family, friends, and all of the employees here at Yokogawa as well as our many valued customers and partners. At the Board of Directors meeting held on June 21, 1999, Isao Uchida, executive vice president and representative director, was elected the new president and chief executive officer to succeed the late Mr. Mikawa.
Mr. Uchida, born on September 27, 1936, graduated from Keio University in Electrical Engineering and joined Yokogawa in 1960. He served as president of Yokogawa Electric Asia from 1974 to 1977, after which he was appointed vice president of Yokogawa and president of Yokogawa Corporation of America in 1989. From 1990 to 1996, he served as vice president and later senior vice president of Yokogawa, assuming the managerial responsibility for corporate quality assurance, sourcing and manufacturing, and sales, successively. He was appointed executive vice president in 1997 and chairman and chief executive officer of Yokogawa Corporation of America in 1998.
