YOKOGAWA ELECTRIC PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR IEC 61158, URGES PASSAGE OF BALLOT TO ANALYZE RECENT VOTING

Yokogawa Electric Corporation (main office: 9-32, Nakacho 2-chome, Musashino-shi, Tokyo; President: Eiji Mikawa; paid-in capital: 3.2306 billion yen) today pledged its full and unequivocal support for the current version of the IEC 61158 fieldbus standard, and for passage of a ballot regarding an analysis of technical comments in certain "no" votes on the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) documents for the Data Link Layer (DLL) and Application Layer (AL).
According to Norio Nakamura, Senior Vice President, Yokogawa Electric believes fieldbus standardization work should be conducted in a fair and objective manner, and not impeded by those who seek to protect vested, commercial interests.
"As a member of the Fieldbus Foundation's Board of Directors, we share the foundation's commitment to the establishment of a single, international, interoperable fieldbus standard. Our company continues to support the work of experts on the IEC SC 65C committee, who have produced a non-proprietary, technically-correct standard." Nakamura said.
Nakamura continued, "The ballot by Participating members of SC 65C is needed to ensure that the final decision on IEC 61158 is based on proven technical facts o not on information supplied by opponents of the standard.
