Everyone understands corrective maintenance means not only higher maintenance costs but also a loss of production. That is why preventive maintenance is one of the keys for maintenance and production efficiency. There are two types of preventive measures: Time Based Maintenance (TBM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). In TBM, multiple equipment installed in one process unit are treated as one group, and maintained together based on statistics reliability time-based theory. The advantage of TBM is it enables to minimize some failures in advance and to plan maintenance schedule in advance. Its disadvantage is unnecessary maintenance due to using the shortest statistics of reliability from safety point of view.
In comparison, the advantage of CBM is that it prevents performing excess maintenance by handling each equipment individually. In CBM, individual equipment is monitored periodically throughout its lifecycle, and its reliability is accurately judged by diagnostics.
Yokogawa develops advanced diagnostic technology for ideal CBM such as stress quantitative technology, deterioration failure detection analysis and strength performance measurement. In the era of digital field networks, such digital information provides accurate information to monitor equipment and to supply predictive diagnostics.
